Bushmanland

Discover the most ancient African population

To the north of the Kalahari Desert lies the former homeland of the Bushmen, a region that was for a long time a land of wealth thanks to the fertility of the soil. Despite the increasing loss of the traditional way of life, this region is still preserved from the overly touristy ways.

The Bushmen or San are among the oldest people in southern Africa, where they have lived for more than 20,000 years. This region is characterized by hut villages, lakes filled with water in the rainy season and a relatively dense fauna and flora.

Elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, elands, antelopes, roan and wild dogs are easily seen, especially in the heart of the Khaudum Game Reserve. The lakes in the rainy season offer a magical spectacle with all these birds attracted by the water.

The San people use a very characteristic click language and have a very rich culture (painting, sculpture, mythology...). By heading towards this region of the country, we leave the arid Namibia that we know to arrive in the "tropical" Namibia, greener. It is even more so towards the Caprivi strip. The low rainfall allows the acacias and the immense hundred-year-old baobabs to survive.

Note that the Bushmanland tracks are only accessible by 4x4.
