Driving and licensing
Some information about the rules of driving a 4x4 in Mozambique.
Basic driving rules in Mozambique
The driver must always be on the left side of the road.
It is imperative to carry your national and/or international driving licence with you.
All occupants of a 4x4 must wear a seat belt, both in the front and in the rear (see also having a child seat or booster seat).
Driving at night outside built-up areas is strongly discouraged (animals, risk of accidents...).
The road network is made up of well-maintained asphalt roads and tracks reserved for 4x4 vehicles.
As the mobile communication network is not effective everywhere, it is recommended to travel with a supply of water, food, petrol, a first aid kit and a spare wheel.
The speed limits to be respected are as follows:
- 120km/h on national roads
- 80km/h approaching towns and villages
- 60km/h through towns and vilages
Beware of the many radars!
Useful numbers:
Police +258 21 325031 or +258 21 400159
Ambulance +258 21 325000 or +258 21 325009
Fire brigade: +258 21 322222 or +258 21 322334.

General Info
Extraordinary country with many campsites and a developed road network.
Avoid driving at night and always spend the night in established campsites.
It is important to reserve your campsite in advance during peak seasons.
For 5 - 6 passengers we recommend booking long in advance.
For certain park and nature reserve roads (except Kruger) a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
