Basic driving rules in Germany
The driver must always be on the right side of the road, priority on the right
It is imperative to have your national driving license with you. If the license is not written in English, German, French or Italian, you will need to obtain an international driving license.
Traffic flows counter-clockwise in the traffic circles
All occupants of a motorhome must wear a seatbelt, both front and back. Children under 12 years old or 1.50m must travel in a ECE44.03 child seat or baby seat
Always overtake on the left and allow a long distance before turning back, especially in front of a truck
You must give way to emergency vehicles even if the siren does not sound.
The speed limit for motor homes is :
- urban zones: 50km/h (30km/h zone in some cities)
- main roads: 100km/h
- German highways: no speed limit. It is important to keep to the right because there is no speed limit.
The legal blood alcohol level must be below 0.5 g/l. Young drivers and drivers under 21 years of age must abstain.
The amount of the fine even in case of a slight overtaking is 250€.
In case of an accident, call 112 as a priority
