Alice Springs to Darwin by 4x4

Experiences and photos by Jean-Claude B. Alice Springs to Darwin by 4x4x, May 2012

 Bungle Bungle

We rented a 4x4 Wallaby Challenger camping car from CampingCar-Online/Ramble Campervans to explore the Australian Outback through extreme driving conditions. Our whole trip lasted 3 weeks and we drove about 5000 km often along rough terrain. We started our adventure in Alice Springs and explored this red-earthed centre and visited the iconic Ayers Rock in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. We then crossed 1100km of desert by the Tanami Road, after which we followed the famous Gibb River Road to arrive in Kakadu Nation Park and then Darwin. About three quarters of this journey required a 4x4 vehicle for crossing rivers, gorges, creeks, steep slopes, narrow paths and generally rough driving conditions.

We were very happy with our 4x4 Wallaby Challenger and found it to be the ideal camping car for our trip. It allowed us complete independence with 180 litres of fuel which was necessary for crossing the desert, and we were able to stay in some exceptional campsites with this vehicle. CampingCar-Online’s services were excellent! They were very reliable with prompt attention to problems, effective communication and personalised attention to detail. We highly recommend CampingCar-Online/Ramble Campervans for all these kinds of extreme driving holidays.
