Dark Peak and White Peak
In 1951 the Peak District National Park became the first established national park in England, extending over 1400 km² in the north of the country. In your motorhome you can travel from the Dark Peak to the White Peak, two completely different sceneries and atmospheres within the same park.
The more northern part of the park, Dark Peak, is virtually uninhabited and extremely wild. Kinder Scout is the highest mountain in the park and it offers spectacular panoramas. Kinder Downfall, the highest waterfall in the park, is another splendid sight. This northern region of the park is covered with clumps of heather and wild black granite formations sculpted by the wind and rain. This unique setting leads us to imagine knights in shining armour from the 18th century and Mr Rochester in Charlotte Bronte's novel, Jane Eyre.
The more southern part of the park, the White Peak, is much milder with its limestone caves and lush valleys. There are many hiking trails and bike paths, and for the more adventurous, hang gliding, paragliding, rock climbing and caving.
